Matulji
This municipality represents the “gates of Kvarner” and is home to the railway station built in the year 1873, the construction of which enabled the tourism development of the Opatija Riviera. Two border crossings, Rupa and Pasjak and the E65 highway towards Trieste and Ljubljana connect Kvarner with Slovenia, Italy, Austria and make the entire region an easily accessible tourism destination. Today, Matulji has over ten thousand residents in 23 settlements, and the increasing development of trades and crafts, despite the fact that the majority of the inhabitants are involved in tourism by renting out rooms and apartments in their homes. This is where Kvarner and the mountainous inland meet, thus ensuring a good night’s sleep for guests in the cool summer nights. Guests are invited to go bicycle riding, walking and hiking in Lisina Forest Park, Učka Mountain, Veprinac or nearby Kastav. The sea is less than 2 kilometers away.
