The best known Lovran gastronomic event is a real feast for gourmands - cakes, sweets and other dishes prepared with chestnuts (maruni), according to old local recipes. Each year the month of October is that of "maruni", when along with the entertainment programmes in the Lovran restaurants and in the cafe of Hotel "Excelsior", a rich gastronomic range of chestnut cakes and sweets is on offer on the streets of the old town.
At the end of the month of October, each year, cafes in neighbouring Opatija - celebrate "maruni", offering a great assortment of cakes prepared with this tasty ingredient.

NAUTICA 2009 will take place in Rijeka from 23 till 27 September 2009 in the ambience of the sea in Rijeka Harbour at the Adamić Dock and the Karolina Riječka Dock. Its basic objective is recognition and further valorisation of the Croatian nautical production which distinguishes it from similar fair events in the country.

III. WIFI International logistics forum
Date: 21st-22nd May 2009
Location: Croatian culture dome on Sušak
Participants: specialists in the supply chain and production, experts in warehousing and distribution, providers and users of logistics services, entrepreneurs, local government and investors, and all employers and employees in the area of logistics.
Local committee Tošina Opatija organizes cultural and entertainment event "Days of Tošina". Tošina is part of Opatija-Volosko, known by many local urban legends, and has the reputation as "most urban" part of the town of Opatija.
Program: many sports tournaments, cultural and fun with a fair of eco products, musical celebrations and a rich gastronomic offer.

During the Asparagus Festival, many restaurants and taverns will offer meals featuring asparagus and on the Final Events day, the traditional Asparagus Feast will be held, as well as the Liburnia Accordion Festival, planned music program and raffle. Later, in the evening, a giant frittata will be made in a 2 m diameter frying pan with 1000 eggs and 30 kg of asparagus
