Its 1969, and Elliot Tiber, a down-on-his-luck interior designer in Greenwich Village, New York, has to move back upstate to help his parents run their dilapidated Catskills motel, The El Monaco. The bank's about to foreclose, his father wants to burn the place down but hasn't paid the insurance, and Elliot is still figuring how to come out to his parents.
A festival of Croatian documentary film, the Liburnia Film Festival, will be held for the eighth time on the open-air stage in the marina in Ičići near Opatija, from Thursday, August 26 to Sunday, August 29, 2010. During the festival, twelve of the best Croatian documentary films shot during 2009 and 2010 and competing for the jury's award will be screened, while 10 other films outside the competition will also be shown. Every evening after the film segment, a music segment presenting groups and DJs from Croatia will ensue. A particularly interesting introduction to the festival will be held on August 19 and August 20 on the Opatija Summer Stage, where Oscar-winning documentaries from 2009 and 2010 will be screened.

The Bejahad Jewish cultural scene for the last five years takes place in Opatija. This 7-day event represents a cross-section of contemporary Jewish culture in Croatia and other countries. The event will include various lectures, poetry readings, exhibitions,
concerts, films and meetings from 24th to 30th of August in Opatija.
